4 Days in Prague

So why did we go to Prague again? Oh yeah, my girlfriend's best friend stays in Prague working for the Finnish embassy. She had been working there for 6 months and guess when we went? The last week of her stay. That’s how incredible my planning skills are. If you want me to plan your holidays for you, holla at me. I got yous. I am the best at this.

Prague is the capital and the largest city in the Czech Republic. I think it is pronounced Praha. But don’t quote me on this. Prague is a political, cultural, and economic hub of central Europe, with a rich history and Baroque architecture. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia and the residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably Charles IV (r. 1346–1378). Oh damn, I love me some Roman Emperor movies. My favourite series of all time is Spartacus.

Enough about Prague's history. If you are a history geek and need more information about its history please see here.

Day 1

We flew with Ryanair. This was my first time flying Ryanair and the experience was kinda pleasant. Apparently, we had an hour delay, which I was unaware of as I was deep into the podcast I was listening to. Apparently, there was a drunk guy on the plane who got kicked out with his partner.

When we got to Prague it was nice and warm. We took a taxi from the airport to Wenceslas Square Hotel, which cost me around £35 but I think I was either ripped off or the cost of living crisis BS. . The room we had at the hotel was superb. See below.

We had dinner at an Italian Boat restaurant. It was nice and cheap at least compared to how we are getting screwed over here in the UK and especially in Edinburgh.

Day 2

Saturday, we met the friend I was talking before about in town and got the tram to the castle just to find out that the castle was closed that day. What a shame, I cried and cried more singing Shaggy - why me lord?

We walked around, it was a pleasant walk actually with a great view of the city. There was a food market in there at the top of the hill near their castle entrance where I thought I got salmon potatoes but to my surprise, it was ham and not salmon, still good though.

We went back to town and went into a pub for beer tasting. And I like their style over there. They are upfront with their racism. In my view, if you want to be racist be upfront with it, don’t be shy about that s**t. I was at the bar for 15 minutes and was not served nor acknowledged. They were serving people that came to the bar after me. I went back to my sit that we should go. My GF went to try to see if that would make a difference. As soon as she got to the bar, she was served. I mean, she was not even at the bar yet still walking and the bartender acknowledged her and served her right away. Anyway, things like that don’t bother me. The beer was great too. Still had a great time in Prague and the people of Prague are actually amazing. After the pub, we went on the communist and bunker tour, which was great but a bit long not gonna lie.

On our way back from the tour, we grabbed some local takeaway (from a baguette place that seems to be super popular) and relaxed in the hotel for a bit. Went to also see the view from the top rooftop bar and got our free glasses of prosecco. Then we went to the ballet to see Romeo and Juliet. Ps, I didn’t realise it was Romeo and Juliet until halfway through the show.

Day 3

Sunday, woke up early to catch the Astronomical Clock hit 10 AM. Why I woke up early for that is beyond me lol as it was boring as hell :D. Then went to the Jews quarter. The interior of some of the buildings was superb. You can some of this below. The way buildings were built back then with those details is too much for my mind. Nowadays houses are just square like an Ikea table; boring looking. Then we went to the most beautiful library I have ever seen (The Klementinum).

Day 4

Monday was the day we flew back to Edinburgh. However, we had a few hours to spare in the morning, so we decided to see the Prague National Museum, which was right next to our hotel. The Museum was big as hell. Not sure why I think hell is big as I’ve never been. We then took an uber (not a normal taxi) back to the airport which was much cheaper.
